The Sweet Spot: Theo Nutcracker Brittle Chocolate Bar

The Sweet Spot is a weekly Bites feature where sugar addict Megan Seling reviews some of the best, worst and weirdest sweet treats sold here in Nashville. It appears Tuesdays.

What it is: Theo's Nutcracker Brittle chocolate bar

Where I found it: Turnip Truck, $2.99

What it tastes like: I'm homesick. That's the only reason I picked up this chocolate bar: I, a former Seattleite, miss the Pacific Northwest. I miss the salty air, the Space Needle and cream cheese on hotdogs. And I miss Theo Chocolate, which is made in Seattle and for sale just about everywhere throughout the city, so I was so happy to see this beautifully wrapped chocolate bar staring right at me while grabbing lunch at Turnip Truck today.

While some dark chocolates can feel a little gritty, and fail to smoothly melt in your mouth, Theo has mastered their 70 percent dark chocolate — it's rich, perfectly bitter and so, so smooth. In the Nutcracker Brittle, the chocolate is laced with tiny pieces of candy brittle that have a delightful crispy crunch when you smash them between your teeth. There is also a moderate sprinkling of bits of almonds and hazelnuts that bring a nice nutty flavor while cutting the richness of the chocolate.

It's only $2.99 but it looks and feels (and tastes) like a chocolate bar worth gifting (and this particular flavor, with it's dairy-free dark chocolate, is suitable for vegans). They're also also come in Peppermint Stick and Gingerbread Spice flavors.

I love you, Seattle. I miss your chocolate so much. If you could also send down some of that salty, never-humid air, I'd really appreciate it.

(And don't worry, Nashvillians — I'll grab a few Olive and Sinclair bars this season, too, to balance things out.)
