Chef Tandy Wilson of
City Houseis always in demand to cook at charity events, so he has to be very selective about which dinners he cooks away from home. But I don't expect it took a lot of arm-twisting to convince him to be a part of the 2015
Hospice du Rhônewine event this spring, April 30-May 5.
First of all, the event will be at Blackberry Farm, the luxury resort in Walland, Tenn., near Knoxville. Secondly, he'll be partnered with renowned Birmingham chef and restaurateur Frank Stitt for the weekend, along with Wine Spectator senior editor James Molesworth who will curate the wine pairings.
There will also be representatives from some of the premiere winemakers of the Rhône region of France, so expect them to bring their prime juice to the event. This is one of those events where they don't even publish prices, which is pretty normal at Blackberry Farm, where the attitude is sometimes, "If you have to ask, don't bother." But it's almost impossible to place a value on the amenities, service and cuisine offerings at the resort, so if you can swing it, I'd highly recommend the experience. Call 1-800-557-8864 (at least they pay for the call) if you want to hold a spot for what should prove to be a fantastic weekend of food and wine.
And if this sounds a little over-the-top for your budget, I've heard rumors that Chef Stitt will be joining Tandy for another event closer to home early next year, so stay tuned to this space for more news on that.
