Otaku South Recruits Top Ramen Masters for Big Charity Party

Chef teams at work at the last Otaku South Extra Large event.

Sarah Gavigan, whose Otaku South pop-ups treat Nashvillians to creative, high-quality ramen, has announced a sequel to

last year's Extra Large event

that brought together out-of-town ramen masters for a big noodle party at Marathon Music Works.

features more high-profile chefs: Edward Lee of 610 Magnolia and Milkwood in Louisville, Ky.; Shigetoshi Nakamura of Ramen Lab and Sun Noodle in New York; Yuji Haraguchi of Yuji Ramen in New York; Mihoko Obuni of Mibo Love Ramen in Atlanta; and Nashville's own Jessica Benefield and Jason McConnell of the upcoming

Two Ten Jack.

This time, Gavigan says, patrons will be slurping for a cause. Proceeds from the event, set for Feb. 15 at Marathon Music Works, benefit the Pablove Foundation and the fight against childhood cancer.

“I have committed to raising $50,000 over the next 12 months for the Pablove Foundation through this and other events to fund a research grant on neuroblastoma ... a type of cancer that took the life of my dear friend’s sweet boy named Teddy Berger-Greer all too soon," Gavigan says in the event announcement. "All money raised by this event will go directly toward a grant awarded by the Pablove Foundation to an innovative research program in the area of neuroblastoma," which is the most common cancer among infants.

Gavigan is also close friends of the founders of the Pablove Foundation, Jeff Castelaz and Jo Ann Thrailkill, who, as she says, "turned the tragic loss of their 6-year-old son Pablo into a world-class charity, that brings love and community to families facing the unbearable news of their child having cancer."

Extra Large 2 kicks off at 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Marathon Music Works, with the ramen bowls flying until 9 p.m. In addition, Nashville favorites Guilty Pleasures will bring music to the party from 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets available here.
