Andy and Charlie Nelson
After a couple years of distributing their Belle Meade Bourbon, which was actually distilled by an out-of-state production facility, Andy and Charlie Nelson have finally brought their historic
Green Brier Distillerybrands home to Tennessee. Earlier this year, they started mashing at their own new facility at 1414 Clinton St. near Marathon Village.
Now that they have their brewing and distilling feet under them, the Nelson boys are ready to invite the public in to see their spanking new distillery. This Sunday, Nov. 23, they are holding an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. to show off the new digs. They'll be featuring their three products, Belle Meade Bourbon, Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish and Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee White Whiskey, which will be available in the gift shop, along with custom logoed apparel that would make great holiday gifts.
Sunday’s kick-off event will also showcase their new tasting room with live music from the Volunteer String Band, local food trucks, commemorative memorabilia, and Belle Meade Bourbon drink specials at William Collier’s bar down the block. For those who want a closer look at the nuts and bolts of the distilling process, the Nelson brothers will be offering tours for $5 with a tasting for 21 and up patrons. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Greenbrier Historical Society, Museum & Library.
The facility will also soon be available for private event rentals with an area overlooking the barrel storage, so drop by to check out the ambiance. After the initial opening, Nelson's Green Brier Distillery’s official hours will be Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with tours and tastings every hour on the hour from noon to 6 p.m.
