Those of you who have lamented the loss of many beloved restaurants of the past 20 years may be pleased to know that Green Hills Grille has returned. Now open across Hillsboro Road from the original location, the restaurant is in Greenbriar Village, the strip that fronts Richard Jones Road.
Inside, the spacious restaurant is a throwback to the original’s Southwestern decor and cuisine. Menu holdovers, such as the tortilla soup, grilled salmon spinach salad, chicken salad melt and Santa Fe chicken, join new items such as salmon kale salad, shrimp and grits, prime rib tacos, steaks, and seafood. There’s an additional selection of kid’s meals as well on a separate menu and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Dessert includes perennial favorites such as such as carrot cake, cheesecake and crème brulée.
If that menu sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Executive chef Christopher Smithing is also the top chef at Brentwood’s Mère Bulles, so there are a number of popular items from that menu that make an appearance on the Green Hills Grille menu, in addition to staff and customer favorites from the original Green Hills Grille. Proprietor Steven Smithing notes that the menu and decor are decidedly…let’s say “classic,” but it was all very intentional in order to give old fans (and potential new fans) a sense of comfort.
