From Scene intern Jess Jowers:
The Good Food Film Series launches 6:30 p.m. tonight at Warner Park Nature Center with the local premiere of Fresh, a new documentary by Ana Sofia Joanes. The film follows the movers and shakers of the alternative food market in America and worldwide (along with omnipresent Omnivore's Dilemma author Michael Pollan) as they try to create healthier, more sustainable alternatives to the current industrial food system.
Fresh focuses on the stories of extraordinary people such as supermarket owner David Ball, who is stocking his stores with produce grown by local farmers; maverick holistic farmer Joel Salatin; and activist and urban farmer Will Allen, a 2008 recipient of the MacArthur Genius Grant. Joanes hopes that the film will inspire viewers to take steps towards greener living, such as buying locally grown products, planting gardens, and using food waste to create warm composts.
Every two weeks through July, the Good Food Film Series offers films on the subject of sustainable living and eating at Warner Park Nature Center, located out Highway 100 in Edwin Warner Park. It's sponsored by Friends of Warner Park and Good Food for Good People. Doors open at 6 p.m. and films will begin at 6:30 p.m. All films are free and open to the public, and a full schedule follows after the jump. For more information, call 352-6299.
