When does a bowl of something taste like luxury? When it’s the she crab soup from Crumb de la Crumb in Bellevue. Rich, creamy and packed with crab, she crab soup is among Charleston’s finest exports. It’s a mix of the finest ingredients from the Atlantic — lump crab meat added to boiled she crab with roe — with a low-country sensibility (i.e., just a bit of sherry). The results, built on a base of cream, are magic. Crumb de la Crumb does bustling breakfast and lunch business (their dinner operation was sidelined in December so that Crumb could focus on their catering and bakery operations), but the star is this bowl. It may say $8 on the menu, but it tastes like $25.
