Don’t judge a bar by the Caddies parked outside — if Sperry’s were slinging sliders from a shipping-container-turned-gin-joint in 12South, they’d have a line around the block. From 5 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, $8 buys two prime rib sliders — tender, juicy sliced beef, caramelized onions, fresh rolls — and a mess of shoestring fries. Made with trimmings from the previous night’s prime rib (typically a cool $30), the sliders come with extra-spicy horseradish sauce and a beefy, salty au jus, creating the perfect slather-and-dunk combo. The fries are McDonald’s-caliber, which is the highest compliment I can pay a potato. But be warned: These sell out daily, so order as soon as you’re seated.
If you do miss your window, the rest of the $8 menu is also delicious: escargot in garlic butter, jumbo shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon. The fresh bread board? It’s straight-up FREE. It’s a ludicrous deal, and one my husband is legitimately angry about me exposing. Luckily, a Sperry’s martini makes a great apology — and it’s also half-priced at happy hour.
