Potato Mountain 615's fully loaded Cajun chicken potato
Though he’s only been running his catering-and-delivery service for a little more than a year, Potato Mountain 615’s Chef Ralph has become something of a local celebrity (and one of the models for this week's Scene cover package). He’s a charming guy, and his catchphrase (“Get you 1, quit playing!”) and Instagram page (@potatomountain_615) gain more fans every day. That’s all well and good, but how are these potatoes?
In short, they’re gigantic (hence the “Mountain” part of the moniker) and very tasty. Chef Ralph offers about 15 varieties of loaded baked potatoes, among them Philly steak, Cajun shrimp and chicken, and the “very colorful” Southwest veggie. He caters parties, luncheons and weddings, but if you hit him up by phone or Instagram DM, he’ll deliver potatoes to you and your friends as long as you’re in driving distance. I recently sampled one of Chef Ralph’s Cajun chicken potatoes, which was delicious — moist and hot and topped with cheese, chicken and various seasonings. I finished the whole thing, skin and all, within a few minutes.
Most of Potato Mountain 615’s potatoes cost $10, though “premium meat” and “two meat” offerings go for $12. (When the Scene felt the heft of one of Chef Ralph’s loaded potatoes, we asked how much each one weighs, but he wouldn’t say — proprietary information, I suppose.) He hopes to soon put up a catering tent near Phatkaps Boutique in Antioch, and he says he’ll host a Fourth of July event (location TBD) and be present at other upcoming happenings like the African Street Festival in September. But Chef Ralph says don’t hesitate to hit him up any time for a delivery. Get you 1, quit playing.
