Monday may have been a holiday, but the busy event calendar never stops working. A couple of interesting opportunities are coming up over the next couple of weeks, so get ready to take a little trip Down Under without leaving the city limits, or head to Franklin for some special meal deals.
First up is Aussie Night at Hearts East, the Melbourne-inspired coffee house at 914 Gallatin Ave. brought to you by the team behind Attaboy and Lakeside Lounge. On Friday, Sept. 6, Hearts will celebrate the Aussie heritage of their restaurant with an evening of fun festivities from 6 until 10 p.m.
DJ Bunikula will provide the beats, and the mini burgermeisters from Slide Hustle will be selling their creative sliders. The highlight of the event will be a screening of The Castle, a 1997 Australian cult film that has been compared to The Full Monty, and is considered one of the best movies ever to come out of the country.
Hearts will also have Australian wines available for purchase, and the pet- and kid-friendly patio will be the place to be. No reservations are necessary — just show up and have fun, mate!
Puckett's Grocery & Restaurant
Not many people realize how big of an operation Puckett’s Restaurant has become. Through the years, the A. Marshall Hospitality property has expanded to eight locations in Tennessee and Alabama. The downtown Franklin outpost at 120 Fourth Ave. S. has been serving up great Southern food and live music for 20 years, and Puckett’s is celebrating that anniversary all month with throwback pricing, giveaways and some performances from some of their favorite bands over the years.
In addition to the chance to win prizes like gift cards, Puckett’s will also give back to the community, donating 20 percent of sales on Tuesdays in September to the Boys & Girls Club. “Throwback Thursdays” during September will offer selected dishes at the same price as they were on the menu in 2004 — inflation be damned! There will be deals on the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, but you can plan ahead to get discounted pricing on dishes like the King’s French toast, the smoky barbecue platter and Puckett’s decadent smoked bologna sandwich.
Live music has been a big part of the Puckett’s experience since 2004, and they have gone through old performance calendars to select some of their favorite acts to invite back to the stage during the September celebration. For a list of who will be playing, check Puckett’s events page. Twenty years is a big deal, so you know they must be doing things the right way.
