Beer Olympics

Olympic spirit is in the air. To celebrate, four breweries and a cidery in and around the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood are jumping into the game with a big event planned for Sunday, Aug. 11, which happens to be the date of the real games’ closing ceremonies in Paris. New Heights Brewing Company, Tennessee Brew Works, Fait La Force Brewing, Jackalope Brewing Company and Diskin Cider are coming together to host the Beer Olympics from noon until 4 p.m.

Teams of four contestants can sign up to compete in different events at each location and go for the gold! Events include Beer Pong time trials, Giant Bendy Straw Chugging Races, Team Flip Cup, etc. Points will be awarded throughout the day to determine the gold, silver and bronze medalists, and prizes include private beer trolley tours, gift cards from the participating businesses, brewery merch and tickets to ride the Music City Brew Hop trolley.

Speaking of Music City Brew Hop, they’ll be transporting participants between the venues and to the closing ceremony at New Heights. All participants must be 21 and older, and teams can sign up one the event's website.

Then all you have to do is pick a team name and get creative with your uniforms. Sign-up fees are $200 (that's $50 per person) and include competition fees, a commemorative cup for each person on your team, a beer for each person at each participating brewery, trolley transportation for your team and unlimited pours during the closing awards ceremony.

And you won’t have to worry about missing the closing gala in Paris — the Olympic events will be streaming live at each participating venue.
