The Old Gas Station, a craft beer bar opened in The Nations by restaurateur John McDougal, is closing after about a year of operation, my Nashville Post colleague William Williams reports.
McDougal, who was a co-founder of the popular McDougal's Chicken Fingers and Wings in Hillsboro Village, tells the Post that this Saturday, Aug. 26, will be The Old Gas Station's final day of business.
“Even though the neighborhood is booming, it has been tough for my business,” McDougal says, adding that not having a full-scale kitchen has been a factor in the bar's lack of success.
McDougal opened The Old Gas Station in July 2016 at 5205 Centennial Blvd., one block west of the T-intersection of Centennial and 51st. As the name suggests, the property was formerly a gas station.
Eventually, McDougal says, he hopes to open a similar concept in a more diminutive bar space with a patio, but he declined to name a neighborhood under consideration for the project. “I am optimistic there will be the right small space available when the timing is ideal, but I will not reopen quickly,” he says.
“I love The Nations and where it’s headed,” McDougal adds. “I wish the area well.”
