Nearly four years ago, the Scene's Chris Chamberlain reported on the opening of The Hop Stop, a craft beer bar that also offered the then-novel service of growler fills. Chamberlain was very impressed by the beer selection, the ambience and menu of gourmet hot dogs.
Today we learned that The Hop Stop has been sold, and its last day of operation will be this Wednesday, Nov. 15.
My Nashville Post colleague William Williams talked with Jesse Hamilton, who co-owned the business with his late wife Tracy Hamilton and Jim Latham.
“Every business has a life cycle, and it was time to bring in some fresh ideas to the space,” Hamilton says. “It turns out The Hop Stop story was a four-year story, and it was a good one. We had wonderful employees and customers.”
Hamilton, who is also the CEO of the Village Pub and Beer Garden in Riverside Village, says business at The Hop Stop had continued to be respectable, but it was simply time to sell. He declined to name The Hop Stop's buyers (nor what kind of restaurant or bar is in the works for the space), saying only, “It’s a very enthusiastic couple of restaurateurs who are passionate about putting a new concept into the space, and I couldn’t be more happy about it.”
The Hop Stop is located at 2909 Gallatin Pike if you want to stop by today or tomorrow, have a last beer and wish them well.
