The 1799 restaurant at The Harpeth Hotel in Franklin has recently announced the latest in its series of fun weekend culinary classes with the addition of “The Art of Brew’n and BBQ’n” on Saturday, June 15. The class will run from 3 until 5 p.m. and feature a collaboration between 1799 executive chef Thomas Tuggle and Alex Wigton from Curio Brewing Company, another Franklin favorite.
Chef Tuggle will explain what differentiates barbecuing from grilling, describing different methods of smoking meats, various brining techniques and other outdoor cooking tips. He’l also discuss the different cuts that 1799 serves, how to source the best meats for your home smoking and how to pair them with drinks.
Wigton will take attendees through the brewing process and the different styles that Curio offers on a rotating basis. Of course you’ll be able to eat and drink your study materials during the class, and students will take home a bottle of 1799’s signature barbecue sauce, some of their proprietary spice rub and a 32-ounce growler of Curio beer. Tickets are $99 and are available at The Harpeth’s website.
In other culinary news from The Harpeth Hotel, management has recently bolstered their food and beverage team with the addition of two industry professionals. The hotel has welcomed Jason Francis as the new director of food and beverage, and Adam Rockholt comes aboard as chef de cuisine at 1799 working under chef Tuggle. Francis brings more than 15 years of experience at restaurants and hotels around the country and will oversee 1799 Kitchen & Cocktails and McGavock’s Coffee Bar & Provisions.
Originally from Memphis, Rockholt worked in Orlando, Boston, Bozeman and Kansas City before coming to Nashville, where was part of the opening team for Luogo and served as executive sous chef at Adele’s and chef de cuisine at Marsh House at The Thompson Hotel. With this strong team, we can certainly expect more interesting events in the future at The Harpeth.
