Tennessee Brew Works and Turner Häus to 'Celebrate Community Through Craft Beer'

Black History Month isn’t quite over yet — although it is pretty crappy that the shortest month of the year is the one dedicated to Black history. Tennessee Brew Works plans to take advantage of the remainder of the month by presenting a big virtual event on Saturday, Feb. 27, in partnership with Turner Häus Brewery. The two breweries will celebrate the release of their new collaboration, Gazelle Hazy Ale, a double IPA named in honor of famous Tennessee State University Tigerbelle trackster Wilma Rudolph.

Turner Häus is a Black-owned brewery in the historic Bronzeville neighborhood of South Chicago, and co-founder and CEO Steve Turner is excited about the collaboration with TBW. "Collaboration with other artists is a very important part of the creative process, but moreover, this particular collaboration showcases how diversity in this country can and should be celebrated collectively to create something epic.”

Tennessee Brew Works founder and president Christian Spears is proud to be a part of the commemorative achievement. “We are honored to work with Steve and his team on this historic hazy double IPA. This beer was particularly special to us, so we are using some distinguished hops, pulling out all the stops!”

The hops he is talking about are a blend of Waimea, Strata, Idaho 7 and Cashmere, which will combine to contribute fruity and citrus notes to this 8 percent ABV ale. To celebrate the release of their new collaboration beer, Tennessee Brew Works and Turner Häus Brewery are putting on a virtual event on Saturday, Feb. 27, which they are calling Jazz + Brews. The aim is to “Celebrate Community Through Craft Beer” via a virtual tasting experience and panel discussion on the topic of “Diversity in the Adult Beverage Manufacturing Industry,” a subject that certainly could use some examination.

The discussion will be moderated by Eric Holt, Professor of Belmont College and co-founder and president of Nashville’s Lovenoise. Other panelists include: Blair Turner-Akiens (Turner Haus Brewery), Stacey Thomas (StaceyWines.com) and Jason Ridgel (Guidance Whiskey). The event will feature live jazz sets from Marcus Finnie + Friends, in conjunction with the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Ticket holders for the $40 event will receive a curated take-home box complete with a Tennessee Brew Works X Turner Haus Gazelle Hazy IPA four-pack, a new home-baked Slim + Husky’s artisan pizza, a commemorative pint glass and Urbaanite Nashville City Guide Vol. 1. Box pickup at Tennessee Brew Works location at 809 Ewing Ave. is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, from noon until 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 27, from noon until 5 p.m., one hour before the festivities kick off.

Tickets for Jazz + Brews are now available at the event’s website, and a link to the private online stream will be sent on the day of the event.
