Tailgate pizza

The staff at TailGate Brewery believes in open source when it comes to the operations of the multi-location brewery, and they occasionally lift the curtain to reveal different aspects of the business through a series called TailGate University. On Thursday, May 8, they’ll be pointing a spotlight on their very successful pizza offerings with a class they’re calling “Build the Perfect Pie Pizza.”

Starting at 6:30 p.m. at TailGate’s headquarters in Bellevue at 7300 Charlotte Pike, the culinary staff at the brewery will lead attendees through the entire pizza-making process, from making and proofing the dough to assembling and cooking the pies. They’ll share how they come up with the inspirations for their popular Pizza of the Month offerings, and each student will get to design and build their own pie from scratch. Best of all, you’ll get to eat your homework!

Tuition for TailGate University is $38.41, and you can pay the bursar and matriculate at the brewery’s website.

Hattie Bs Crawfish Boil.png

Finally, if you attended the Sunday seminars at our Music City Food & Wine Festival, I hope you caught the cooking demonstration by chef Brian Morris of Hattie B’s. I told you he promised it would be an extremely entertaining presentation, and neither one of us was lying. The interactive demo involved lots of music, audience participation, free food and silliness. So basically, it was exactly the show-stopper that the festival deserved as a finale.

As part of his presentation, Chef Morris shared that he is planning a special fundraiser for Saturday, May 31, at Hattie B’s West Nashville location at 5209 Charlotte Ave. He’s throwing an old-fashioned backyard crawfish boil from noon until 4 p.m., featuring spicy Louisiana crawfish, hot chicken sausage and cold local beers, with proceeds supporting the chef’s annual bike ride to support the No Kid Hungry charity.

You’ll need to buy your ticket in advance so they know how many mudbugs to put in the pot, but that’s pretty easy to do online. I promise it’s gonna get spicy!
