Le Sel
Le Sel, the New French restaurant operated by locally based Strategic Hospitality in Midtown, has closed.
A release does not note the reason for the closing the restaurant, located at 1922 Adelicia St. in the ground floor of the Adelicia tower. The last day of operation was Sunday, May 19.
A creation of Strategic Hospitality co-founders Benjamin Goldberg and Max Goldberg, Le Sel opened in October 2015. Rene De Leon, an accomplished chef who had worked at respected Chicago restaurants Alinea and Next, oversaw the menu at the time. When Scene food writer Chris Chamberlain visited the bistro early on, he was impressed by De Leon's "dedication to precise execution and his inventive alterations to traditional recipes."
Strategic Hospitality is a prominent restaurant group in town; its projects include The Catbird Seat, Pinewood, Bastion, Henrietta Red and most recently the Downtown Sporting Club on Lower Broadway.
Prior to the Goldbergs' venture, the Le Sel space had housed several restaurants, including Miro District and The Tippler. Many followers of the local food and beverage scene thought that with the Goldbergs behind it, Le Sel might enjoy a long and productive run.
From the release:
After nearly a four-year run, we have decided that while we have loved the time we had, it is time to move on to the next chapter. We are thankful that we are able to make the staff a priority and are giving them the option to [work at] one of our other establishments if they so wish. We are also extremely grateful to those who frequented Le Sel and made special memories there. It has always been our goal to provide our guests with an incredible experience, and we hope you have as fond remembrances of times in Le Sel as we do.
