South Indian Restaurant Godavari Coming to Brentwood

There will be another option for South Indian cuisine in the Nashville area soon, as the local franchise of Godavari is set to open in Brentwood. It was originally planned as another location of Sitar, but the owners instead opted for the Godavari concept, which is a popular and growing chain based near Boston.

The news comes on the heels of the recent openings of two other restaurants specializing in South Indian cuisine, which features dosas and idly along with curries and is frequently vegetarian. The reincarnated Woodlands opened on West End, and Mysore Palace, operated by a former Woodlands chef, opened in Cool Springs.

Mysore Palace has received mixed reviews, while diners at Woodlands have discovered that despite reports, the restaurant is not the same as the previously loved restaurant; it now serves a limited-option buffet at both lunch and dinner instead of a menu like the old Woodlands, which included Indo-Chinese foods and numerous varieties of dosas, uthappas, and breads along with curries.

Godavari is not exclusively vegetarian like Mysore Palace and Woodlands; its extensive menu includes familiar North Indian and Punjabi dishes, as well as Indo-Chinese options. South Indian cuisine is also a specialty of the two Dosa Hut locations as well as Swagruha in the Nashville Farmers' Market.

No word on the exact open date for Godavari, but the restaurant has passed final inspections. Though some equipment is still being added, signage and seating are in place, so it should be ready soon. The restaurant is located at 5012 Thoroughbred Lane in the Merchants Walk shopping center, just east of Maryland Farms.
