Smith & Lentz
As you no doubt read in Scene contributor Jennifer Justus' recent story ("East Nashville, a Year After the Tornado"), beloved East Nashville IPA- and lager-centric brewery Smith & Lentz was right in the path of last spring’s tornado. They’ve spent almost a full year recovering from the damages sustained by their building at 903 Main St. Now the wait is finally over!
This weekend, Smith & Lentz opened for curbside and inside pickup of three canned varieties of their beers, plus 16-inch handcrafted pizzas. The three beers currently being offered are their German pils, an Italian pilsner called “Big Night” and a bright, citrusy IPA named “Green After All.” They will also offer Crowlers filled with some of their other draft-only beer selections — but no Crowler refills for the time being.
If all goes well with the to-go soft opening, Smith & Lentz plans to welcome customers for indoor dining and patio seating on Tuesday, March 2, with a slightly expanded menu including salads and snacks. As part of this new service model that includes their own food, they will no longer allow patrons to bring their own food into the brewery — but that’s not much to ask when it comes to supporting this important East Side business, which has been through a lot over the past year.
In the Facebook announcement about its new policies, S&L makes sure to note that masks will be mandatory, adding: “No excuses. No fighting. No wars will be won at Smith & Lentz.”
It looks like they’ve already won the big battle against Mother Nature, so a little mask wearing shouldn’t be too much to ask. Welcome back!
