Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack Adds New Location

Prince's food truck at 6th & Peabody

It took more than a half-century for Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack to add its second location near the corner of Nolensville Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard. And not too long after that, Prince's flagship location north of town was forced to close after sustaining damage from a fire caused by a car crashing into a nearby storefront. Owners announced that they were searching for a new location in their old neighborhood, but until then, Prince’s lovers’ options were back down to one — unless you count the sporadically open food-truck location in the courtyard at 6th and Peabody in partnership with Yee-Haw Brewing Co. and Ole Smoky Moonshine.

And you certainly should count that relationship with the brewery and distillery, because that's the reason that, for the first time, Prince’s will open a location outside of Tennessee — specifically in Greenville, S.C. After years of spurning offers to franchise or open new locations outside of Nashville (though notably, family member Kim Prince has opened a successful operation called Hotville in Los Angeles), Prince’s Chicken will soon be available in Greenville as part of a remodel effort at Yee-Haw’s 11,000-square-foot brewery downtown.

Greenville is not as unusual of a choice as you might think. It’s one of my favorite smaller Southern cities when it comes to culinary tourism, thanks to its more than 100 independent restaurants located on the very walkable stretch of Main Street that crosses the Reedy River. Yee-Haw’s facility is just a couple blocks off of Main, so they should draw some good foot traffic to Prince’s when they open up for counter service in the next month or so.

Yee-Haw won’t be the only beer option to enjoy with your hot chicken at the brewery or in the spacious expanded outdoor patio area. They’ve invited Asheville, N.C., favorite Green Man Brewery to bring its traditional English-style ales to the party, and the two breweries will collaborate to create some new beers that will only be available in Greenville under a new “Common Ground” series.

Anybody up for a road trip?
