Pepper Pott 1

Chef Karen Thomas is the culinary force behind Pepper Pott, a food truck and catering company that is introducing the international melange that is Guyanese cuisine to Nashville. Along with her sons in the kitchen, Chef Karen combines traditional Southern food elements with the cuisine of Guyana, a culture that already encompasses accents contributed from Africa, South Asia, East Asia and Iberia.

This is all to say, Guyanese food is a flavor sensation, and if you want to experience it, there’s no better opportunity than this Sunday, May 25, when Thomas hosts her monthly “Suppa Club” at 100 Taylor St. in Germantown. The event starts at 5 p.m., and guests can expect a fully immersive experience within The Space, a rentable events venue.

In addition to a three-course meal reflecting the exotic flavors of Guyana’s connection to South America and the Caribbean, there will be cocktails and mocktails, music and storytelling, and a delightfully decorated venue to make you feel like you’ve been transported to the equator. To contribute to the ambiance, the requested dress code is “elevated resort wear,” which sounds delightful to me since I personally haven’t been to an elevated resort since before the pandemic!

I saw images from the first Pepper Pott Suppa Club last month, and it looked fantastic. Artfully plated roasted proteins and lo mein tucked into hollowed-out pineapples, crispy chicken wings and a bundt cake for dessert. Add in the lively music and good company, and it looks like a great way to spend an early Sunday evening.

The menu for this Sunday includes a first course of split pea soup and curry wings, a main course of spinach rice with your choice of fish, chicken or breadfruit/seitan and plantain banana bread with coconut ice cream for dessert.

The full dinner and all the fun are just $85.07 all-in, and tickets are available through Pepper Pott’s Eventbrite site
