It’s gotten to the point that it’s more newsworthy when an event announces that it won’t be virtual, but I guess that’s where we are now. The Nashville Wine Auction has raised millions of dollars over the years in support of cancer research and treatments, and this year the organizers remaining committed to sustaining the fight against the disease with a virtual version of its big wine auction, in lieu of the annual l'Eté du Vin wine event.
This year’s virtual black-tie- (and pants-) optional installment of the big wine auction fundraiser will take place Saturday, Oct. 10. As per usual, the auction will include remarkable lots of wine drawn from the local cellars of generous donors. You can preview some of the lots from both the silent and live auction at the event website, and the silent auction will run from Oct. 1 until Oct. 12. But the big main event will be the live online auction, which will take place from 6:30 until 8 p.m. on Oct. 10.
If you really want to feel like part of the party, well then definitely put on some pants first — but then take advantage of some fun food and wine packages that the organizers have put together. Cakebread Cellars is offering a six-pack of wines that you can preorder by Oct. 1 for delivery to your house — so that you can take part in a special pregame online tasting led by Dennis Cakebread himself, starting at 6:30 on the night of the big auction. If Cakebread isn’t your cup of tea, err … wine, you can also choose from other wine packages offered by partners of the Nashville Wine Auction that will benefit the cause.
Since you’ll be at home enjoying the auction, you probably don’t want to have to bother with cooking dinner, so the NWA has partnered with some local restaurants and caterers to provide special meals for the evening. Here are some of the spots you can consider:
