I’m not gonna lie to y’all. Everybody knows I love the Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint downtown at 410 Fourth Ave. S. I pretty much have a personal seat license for a barstool before Preds games (and there may even be a couple of photos of me over the bar to mark my spot), and my regular order of dry-rubbed chicken wings with Alabama white sauce on the side and a Yazoo Daddy-O pilsner has proven to be quite the good luck charm for the Preds over the years. But don’t sleep on the catfish fingers appetizer at Martin’s. They are perfectly fried little golden strips of deliciousness!
In addition to the fantastic food there, the Martin’s team has really upped their live entertainment game on the small stage in the upstairs beer garden/whole hog pits. (Back in the day when I played in a band, that easy access to the stage from a single step up from the alley would have been the greatest load-in imaginable, considering I used to lug a whole PA system down the steep stairs from the back parking lot at Jonathan’s in Hillsboro Village every Wednesday night.)
Not surprisingly, Martin’s has started to attract some fantastic music acts to entertain patrons while they enjoy food and drink, and they’re going big with six nights of music to accompany the multitude of acts playing around town for this year’s AmericanaFest. (Check out the Scene's extensive AmericanaFest coverage.)
From Tuesday, Sept. 10, through Sunday, Sept. 15, the folks at Martin’s will celebrate their second annual Americana Revue with more than 30 acts playing free shows on their stage. Admission is free for all the shows, and of course you’ll be able to purchase food and drinks to enjoy while you listen. The performances will span genres from country and folk to rhythm-and-blues, so there’s probably something you’ll love on the schedule.
