Help Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish Owner Bolton Matthews Fight Cancer

For the past 17 years, Bolton Matthews has worked hard to help keep Nashville's hot chicken tradition alive and thriving. Following in the footsteps of his late uncle Bolton Polk, a onetime Prince's staffer who developed his own recipe and ran a restaurant called Columbo's Hot Chicken, Matthews opened Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish on Main Street in 2001, where he offers his special take on potent poultry as well as a spicy fish sandwich that bites back.

Now, Matthews and his family — his wife Dollye and their 4-year-old daughter — need our help.

According to a statement published with a GoFundMe campaign this week, Matthews went to the emergency room with chest pain early this summer. He was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, which had metastasized and spread to his liver, and his treatment currently includes chemotherapy and medications that cost more than $1,000 per week. This intensive regimen has already outstripped what his insurance will cover, and is only likely to get more expensive.

Donate to the GoFundMe campaign right here, and consider loading up on antacid and stopping by the restaurant at 624 Main St. for a sandwich or two this weekend.
