Last month when we kicked off Sandwich Madness, we asked readers to pick from 32 of the best sandwiches in town and help us pick a favorite.
After narrowing the field to a Pig & Cow winner (Mitchell Deli's Asian flank steak), a Fish & Fowl winner (Hattie B's hot chicken sandwich), a vegetarian winner (The Grilled Cheeserie's spinach and artichoke melt) and a barbecue winner (Edley's Tuck Special), Hattie B's and Edleys' faced off in the final.
And Nashville chose barbecue over hot chicken.
Our Ashley Brantley describes the winner this way: "The Tuck Special feeds the fat kid in us all: Juicy smoked brisket, an over-easy egg, spicy pimento cheese and dill pickles are drenched with red and white barbecue sauces. It’s a messy, meaty, charming disaster that oozes flavor out every side. Like Whitesnake or US Weekly, it’s bad for you and embarrassing to consume in public, but it also satisfies that deep need to stop giving a shit and do what you want."
Congratulations to Edley's and that big, glorious mess of a sandwich.
