While the pin-wearing members of The Court of Master Sommeliers may be a little more glamorous and attract more attention, their education and testing program isn't the only one that is respected by oenophiles. The Wine & Spirit Education Trust is a global nonprofit program based out of London that also offers educational and accreditation programs for both wine pros and amateur enthusiasts.
Subvino Wine Services is Nashville’s new approved program provider for Wine & Spirit Education Trust courses, led by owner and instructor Phillip Patti, an industry professional with more than 15 years of experience educating in wine and spirits. His practical knowledge extends to every aspect of the wine trade, production, restaurants and viticulture. Patti holds the Diploma in Wines and Spirits, and he is a WSET certified educator. He has traveled to many of the world’s greatest wine regions, and his experience with vineyards, wineries, restaurants and distributors helped develop his global perspective on wine and spirits.
Over the next few months, Subvino will be offering a wide range of classes at locations around Middle Tennessee as well as helping to educate the staffs at local bars, restaurants and retail establishments. Here are the classes they plan to present:
• Level 1 Award in Spirits — a beginner-level course in spirits.
• Level 1 Award in Wines — a beginner-level course in wine.
• Level 2 Award in Spirits — for the beginner to intermediate spirits professional, and for those who want to understand the various styles and production of spirits.
• Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits — a beginner to intermediate course that covers both wine and spirits from the perspective of what the label can tell you.
• Level 3 Award in Wines — an advanced-level course for the wine professional, manager, or serious enthusiast who wants to deeply explore the important regions of the wine producing world.
Several classes and tastings that are appropriate for civilian wine lovers and pros alike are planned for the next couple of months, and you can keep track of the upcoming schedule here.
In addition to the educational components, Subvino also offers tailored tastings as well as wine cellar creation and management consulting services.
