Franklin-based restaurant company A. Marshall Hospitality announced Tuesday the closure of Deacon’s New South in downtown Nashville after a nine-year run.
Located at in the L&C Tower at 401 Church St., the steak and Southern cuisine-focused restaurant — a sister business of Puckett’s Restaurant — will cease operations on Saturday, Oct. 24. It opened in October 2017.
According to a press release, the closing will come “amid continued economic pressures and reflects the hospitality group’s ongoing efforts to evaluate its operations, positioning its family of restaurants for long-term sustainability.”
The looming closure will follow recent similar moves involving Puckett’s Restaurant locations in Cullman, Ala., and Hendersonville. Puckett’s continues to operate six locations across Tennessee, including its downtown Nashville restaurant located one block to the west of Deacon’s. A. Marshall Hospitality (AMH) also operates Scout’s Pub in Franklin.
Relatedly, the move comes after AMH founder and veteran local restaurateur Andy Marshall stepped aside as leader of his eponymously named company after recently having been elected Williamson County mayor. Claire Crowell, Marshall’s daughter, now serves as CEO of A. Marshall Hospitality.
“Deacon’s New South has been a special part of our family for almost 10 years, and we are incredibly grateful to the team members, loyal guests and Nashville community who have supported us throughout the years,” Crowell says in a release.
“Downtown Nashville has changed tremendously over the past decade, and the current economic environment has created challenges that require us to make difficult decisions about the future of our business. While we will certainly miss welcoming guests to Deacon’s. We are proud of what we have built and the memories made here. We look forward to seeing our guests just down the street at Puckett’s Nashville.”
