A cafe and brew pub — seemingly courtesy of the team behind The Red Door Saloon — is being slated for Midtown.
To be called Clarke’s Cafe, the restaurant would operate at 1817 Broadway in what had been, years ago, a private residence.
Ric Clarke, who co-owns The Red Door Saloon and Broadway Brewhouse & Mojo Grill with long-time local businessman Kelly Jones, owns the building from which the cafe and brew pub would operate. He paid $1.35 million for the property in March 2018, according to Metro records.
Clarke could not be reached for comment, and the Scene was unable to determine details of the would-be future business.
A sign in the front of the property simply reads “coming soon.”
Clarke, whose family history includes firefighters and police officers, is known for a passion for his hometown of Chicago. Many of the Red Door — both in Midtown and East Nashville — signs and knickknacks have a Chicago sports and cityscape theme. Clarke (his surname is Irish) also has a fondness for Celtic elements, with shamrocks found at Red Door — and on the aforementioned “coming soon” sign.
Of note, Jones and Clarke own the building home to the Midtown Red Door, which sits adjacent to the 1817 Broadway site. With an address of 1816 Division St., the Red Door property underwent a major upgrade in 2012. Clarke and Jones paid about $327,000 for the property in August 2005, Metro records show.
