Black Abbey Releases New Collaboration With Jameson

Last month I told you about Black Abbey Brewing Company being chosen as one of only 16 breweries in America to participate in a special collaboration with Jameson, the Irish distillery known for producing popular Irish whiskeys. The program was inspired by Jameson’s new product, Caskmates. This special edition whiskey is finished in stout-seasoned whiskey casks and was quite delicious when Jameson was sampling it at the recent Music City Food + Wine Festival.

Now Black Abbey is ready to introduce their part of the collaboration to their hometown fans with the release of their new “Lorica Special.” Jameson provided each brewer in the program with Jameson barrels to age their craft beer for a select period of time, and each brewery in the program has produced a limited-edition beer, available only in their local market.

Lorica Special is a Belgian-style dubbel and is named for one of St. Patrick’s best-known prayers. Lorica Special is rich and malty with a delicate vanilla and oak finish, thanks to the barrels contributed by Jameson. “We could not be more excited to be working with the folks at Jameson,” brewery co-founder Carl Meier stated. “We are honored to be included in such a prestigious group of breweries.” Some other brewers participating in the Drinking Buddies program are Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Green Flash Brewing Company in San Diego, and Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing.

Black Abbey will launch Lorica Special at their Fellowship Hall taproom at 2952 Sidco Drive on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 3:30 p.m. and will host special tasting and whiskey-pairing events throughout the Nashville area in the coming weeks.“Barrel-aging beer has been an important part of The Black Abbey brewing culture since we began," said Meier. “It is an honor to work with one of the world’s most well known whiskey producers. We are confident you are going to enjoy what we have created together.”

You don’t have to buy a ticket or make a reservation to be a part of the festivities. Just show up at Fellowship Hall and buy a pint of Lorica Special. You’ll be celebrating St. Patrick without having to put up with a buncha drunks or chug any green beer. That’s a big win.
