Bringle (in the orange hat) entering the field of battle
Set your DVR for this Thursday, Aug.1, at 8 p.m. because local restaurateur and competitive barbecue cooker Carey Bringle will be one of the eight contestants in a new Food Network show titled BBQ Brawl: Flay vs. Symon. The multi-episode series features best friends and chef-lebrities Bobby Flay and Michael Symon each mentoring teams of four pitmasters as they compete in various barbecue battles at the famous Star Hill Ranch in Austin, Texas, to see who is the best of the best.
Bringle shouldn’t need a lot of mentoring since he’s already an award-winning barbecue competitor and no stranger to appearing on television, including winning Best in Chow and competing in a special grilling series of episodes of Chopped, where he regrettably tried to garnish his dish with a raw shrimp head, leading to a slightly humiliating exit. But don’t worry, at least the raw shrimp head got its own Twitter account out of the deal.
Bringle will face some tough competition, not the least of whom is multiple World Champion Tuffy Stone, but as long as Peg Leg keeps the crustaceans off the plate, I think he’s got a good chance. Go get 'em, champ!
