Dwight Yoakam — aka my country Eastern Kentucky-born boyfriend — is as much a showman as he is a musician. My favorite Yoakam dance move (though he’s not the only one who performs the move) is that ol’ deal where he keeps one leg stable while the other one goes completely crazy. It’s both very country and totally rock ’n’ roll — much like Yoakam’s many hits, which include “Guitars, Cadillacs,” “Honky Tonk Man” and “Ain’t That Lonely Yet,” among others. His 2016 album Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars keeps with that tone, though in spots it also sounds more traditionally bluegrass than his previous efforts. And it includes a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain” that (dare I say) rivals the sexiness Prince brought to the original. When Yoakam hits the Mother Church of Country Music for a two-night stand this week, he'll bring with him opener King Leg, an Oribison-esque L.A. rock 'n' roller King Leg, whose 2017 debut Meet King Leg was produced by Yoakam.
