For the locals who don’t count down the days until football season, fall in Nashville unofficially arrives when music returns to the Musicians Corner stage. Or at least it spiritually arrives, even if the thermostat still teases unfathomably warm temperatures. The family-friendly — and free! — concert series returns Friday to Centennial Park for the first of five weekends packed with trustworthy lineups and unmatched lawnchair hangs. The first weekend of the season includes funk-pop singer Gerard Alain, alt-rock band Sweet Lizzy Project, soulful Americana performer Kara Frazier and roots artist Josh Okeefe. Indie-folk band Birdtalker headlines the night. The Nashville-based band featuring husband-and-wife duo Zack and Dani Green is playing Musicians Corner before embarking on a run of European dates this fall. Can’t make it to Musicians Corner this weekend? Mark your calendar for Sept. 4 through 6, when event organizers host Free Fest, a three-day show featuring Rayland Baxter, Nikki Lane, MORGXN and more. Find information on upcoming lineups at musicianscorner.com.

5 p.m. at Centennial Park
