Critic's Pick: Kind Hearted Strangers Album Release

Thursday night at The 5 Spot, rockers Kind Hearted Strangers will celebrate the Sept. 25 release of their third full-length record, the inspired Conflicts of Interest. Co-produced by lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Marc Townes and engineer Todd Divel, the album was recorded just a block away from the club at what was formerly the headquarters of the late Todd Snider’s Aimless Inc. “We very much wanted to do this show at The 5 Spot because of its proximity to The Purple Building where all this music was made,” Townes tells the Scene. He’s excited about the album, which explores the various kinds of conflict that affect the lives of touring musicians. “It’s such a great feeling,” he says. “Once you let it out there, it’s like, ‘All right, now we can go make more stuff.’ That’s what I love.” The group’s set will focus on material from Conflicts of Interest, but will also include some songs from previous releases. “We want to mix in a couple of things,” Townes says. “There’s some music we released this year that’s not even on the album.” Easton Admiral and Charlie Treat are also on the bill, and both artists will sit in with Kind Hearted Strangers during their set.
