Flipsville, the rock ’n’ roll happening held at Springwater the first Friday of each month, is the brainchild of Tyler Davis. “Everything’s based in rock ’n’ roll and rhythm ’n’ blues,” Davis tells the Scene. A typical Flipsville Friday begins with an art and record market in the game room with DJs spinning garage rock, rockabilly and soul records, followed by a couple of burlesque dancers, the Vincent Quinn Combo and two other bands. This year, in addition to Friday’s show, Davis is hosting a special Fourth of July edition of Flipsville at the club on Saturday that begins late afternoon with a cookout and record and art markets. “I just wanted to do something big,” Davis says of the special holiday show. “We’re firing up the grill, and we’re getting burgers and dogs and vegetarian options, too. And it’s all free.” Jerry O. and Mean Dean will get the music started at 5:30 p.m., followed by The Altered Statesman. Canadian rocker and Goner recording artist Bloodshot Bill will close out a bill that includes Garrett DeVaughn, Stargurl, Cha Cha Heels and Shady Unicorns, as well as burlesque dancers and DJs who will “keep the party going” during the set changes. There’s no cover, but donations to Flipsville are accepted and appreciated.
