Bluegrass Nights feat. Dailey & Vincent

One of the genre’s top “show” bands, Dailey & Vincent play a highly refined, clean-pressed version of bluegrass with old-fashioned, variety-show-type appeal. The duo is made up of Jamie Dailey, who’s got a haunting tenor, and co-crooner Darrin Vincent, and a strong gospel thread runs through their material. The pair’s sound on this year’s Poets and Patriots harkens back to the great brother duos and their classic barnstorming ’grass — and it’s about as slick and elaborately produced as bluegrass can be. The two frontmen and their entire backing band all come with impressive pedigrees: Dailey is a multiple IBMA Award winner, and Vincent is equally decorated, having been a key player in Ricky Skaggs’ Kentucky Thunder and having served a good spell as John Hartford’s bassist. Check out the duo’s mesmerizing cover of Gillian Welch’s “By the Mark” and their numerous Larry’s Country Diner videos on YouTube to catch them in their element. Thursday’s show is part of the Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman series. CY WINSTANLEY
