Beer & Hymns: St. Patrick's Day

According to an old proverb, “Man’s way to God is with beer in hand.” In that case, you just might find God even faster with a beer in hand while singing hymns. Give that a shot at Mercy Lounge on St. Patrick’s Day. Nashville’s Beer & Hymns — an “institutionally unaffiliated” group of hoodlums that gets together to celebrate, well, just what it sounds like — is setting up shop with brews from Black Abbey and a curated book of hymns. (Call me when they start doing Whiskey & Hymns.) Beer & Hymns bills itself as a “communal journey to find moments of non-shyly singing together,” and the song list for this event is set to include “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye,” “The Wild Rover,” “Beer, Beer, Beer” (naturally), “Amazing Grace” and many more. Whether you can croon with the best of them or you’re better suited for the back row of the choir, this is a far better choice for celebrating Saint Patty’s than pub-crawling through downtown alongside 100 guys in “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” T-shirts.
