Who Does the Nathan Bedford Forrest Statue Actually Look Like?

If there's a silver lining to be found in the senseless acts perpetrated by racially motivated domestic terrorist Dylann Roof in South Carolina last week, it's that the murders have served as a sort of catalyst. Not a catalyst for gun-control reform, but rather a catalyst to bring down symbols of the Confederacy that still exist all over the South. Senator Bob Corker "sees no reason" that the Confederate flag should fly over the South Carolina state capitol. Congressman Jim Cooper and state House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh want the Nathan Bedford Forrest bust out of the state legislature. And mayoral candidate Megan Barry has suggested "restoring the trees and brush along the stretch of I-65" where the notoriously hideous statue of Forrest (pictured above) is visible. This is of course because the statue is on private property, and despite how much people dislike it (and lots of people really dislike it), nobody can really do anything to bring it down.

So. Revisiting the issue of the fiery-eyed, comically disproportioned, heinously conceived, skirt-adorned, pistol-waving, saber-brandishing, floppy-haired, silver-skinned, lipless, body-of-a-toddler-having statue has got me thinking: Who does this thing really look like? It's of course supposed to look something like this, but seeing as how it does not, I want to open the floor to comments. Scene editor-in-chief Jim Ridley sees some Adam Duritz similarities. Recently departed (like, he took another job, not like he's "no longer with us") news editor Steve Cavendish thinks it looks a little something like Shrek's Lord Farquaad. Personally? I think the thing looks A LOT like Christopher Guest as The Princess Bride's Count Rugen. (I'm right, aren't I? You know I am.)

So, what do you think? Cast your vote! Maybe if we can all agree on who this thing looks like, we can henceforth refer to it as "that Count Rugen statue" (or whatever) instead of "that embarrassing thing."
