Want To Ride Your Bicycle in Nashville? Watch This.

So the Scene just started a

six-week series

in which we profile the mayoral candidates, giving you background info on each individual and the platforms they support. This should give you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with each contender before the election in August so we don't have any more of this

Tennessee sucking with voter turnout bullshit

.

Of course, we all have our opinions on what the incoming mayor should spend time and taxpayer dough on (here's a shortlist we published back in November). But what do you think, dear citizens of Music City?

Matt Nemer, avid biker about town (the bicycle kind, not the motorcycle kind), wants our next mayor to put a priority on maintaining bike lanes, so he put together what is now my second favorite video about bicycles. Now, I don't know what it's like to ride a bike around Nashville — I've been hit by cars twice while running, so I'm not pressing my luck — but after learning about cyclist Molly Meinbresse's near-fatal automobile collision in 2013, we all know how dangerous this city can be for cyclists.

Nemer's firsthand view of cycling in the city puts you in the biker's seat, and he also offers some good suggestions on what can be improved. Thanks to him, I now know what "salmoning" is, and I plan to use this any time I see someone going the wrong way, whether they're on a bike or not.

So, that was my second favorite video involving bicycles. Nemer, I love you, but the best bicycle video EVER is still this (NSFW):
