Opening Reception for Paint It Black
When: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23
Where: Watkins' Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Gallery
The result of an ongoing collaborative workshop between Watkins graphic design students and Hatch Show Print, Paint It Black is a celebration of the Rolling Stones’ 50-year reign as the World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band — unless you favor The Beatles. That’s another story.
The Stones have always traded heavily on their visual identity, and their lip-licking logo is rock’s most iconic. This exhibit focuses on oversized posters inspired by Stones’ song titles. “Wild Horses” sounds too easy, but what about an abstract, monochrome “She Got the Silver?” Paint a big devil tattoo on your chest and head down to tonight’s reception. I’ve got dibs on “Sister Morphine.”
