"Drainage," Rebecca Drolen
To call Wedgewood-Houston's Chestnut Square building drafty would be an understatement, and so the galleries there often take winter months off. The last show exhibited at Threesquared, the gallery Sara Estes runs out of Dane Carder's Chestnut Square studio, was
Shelby Shadwell's Auniversal Pictureslast November. But next weekend they'll host their first opening of 2014: Artist
Rebecca Drolenwill show work from her series Hair Pieces. From the press release:
Hair Pieces investigates the fickle relationship people have with their body hair. From shameful to desirable, our feelings about hair are often surreal. These images critique the ways in which society influences which hair in which places are alluring or grotesque, which has evolved significantly throughout history. Drolen received her MFA in photography from Indiana University in 2009. Before joining Belmont in 2013, she served as a Faculty Fellow at the University of Georgia and as an assistant professor at Michigan State University.
