Studio Visit: Amanda Valentine

As anyone who’s ever been an art director can tell you, one of the sticking points of the job is that people will

crowd around your computer screen

like it’s the hottest girl at any nightclub ever. But a couple of weeks ago the tables turned, and the Scene’s art director called me over to look through photos that were going to be in the Fall Fashion Issue. That's when you know something's really good — when even a jaded art director needs you to COME SEE THIS RIGHT NOW. You can see for yourself tomorrow when the issue hits newsstands, but today I’ve got a sneak peek inside the studio of one of my favorite designers, whose work is all over the issue — including the cover photo.

Amanda Valentine is the designer behind the Valentine Valentine line. I found out about her work when she participated in the first Nashville Fashion Week — I wrote something about her clothes being for the type of girl who wants to lead the pack and not blend into it, which is kind of corny but also totally true. Valentine’s studio is in the first floor of the Germantown apartment she shares with husband Will Holland. Her work is available on this Etsy page, and in my closet.

Look through pictures I took of her studio space after the jump — including images of Gee's Bend quilts and the illustrations inside Stevie Wonder's Innervisions LP — and check back with Country Life tomorrow when Abby White will post her recent Q&A with Valentine.
