It doesn’t look like she’s running for president this time around, but Roseanne Barr still has a lot of opinions about the 2016 election. Anyone who religiously watched her feminist-leaning sitcom growing up (or is watching is today — Roseanne still airs several times a week in reruns) might be surprised to learn the comedian isn’t supporting Hillary Clinton. “She’s the same old shit,” Barr said in an interview with The Daily Beast earlier this year.
So what does Barr still stand for? Looking at her rambling, loaded Twitter feed, it’s hard to say. These days Barr is outspoken but unfocused — hating on Obama one minute, hating on Republicans the next, but also shunning the term “feminist.” She’s against homophobia and racism, but she made some enemies in the LGBT community a few years ago with some transphobic rants. The only constant seems to be that she loves weed.
So it’s hard to say what her stand-up performances at Zanies will bring — the hilarious, poignant comedian constantly fighting for women’s rights? Or the bitter activist who’s chosen some very strange, very backward battles over the past several years? If you can’t face the possibility of heartbreak, Roseanne is also on Netflix.
