Stand-up comedian Ron Funches currently holds the record for most wins on Comedy Central’s @midnight, taking home the gold and winning the Internet on 11 out of his 13 appearances. Which, on one hand, duh; Ron Funches is hilarious. But on the other, you’d never think that Funches’ gentle, deliberate pacing of jokes would land so hard on a show that’s essentially about hurling comedy at you like some kind of one-liner Large Hadron Collider.
But really, it’s the fact that Funches takes his time — letting his setups linger before following through with a punchline — that makes audiences howl with laughter. If you think Funches is good on @midnight, just wait until you see him do a headlining set at Zanies without being interrupted by Hashtag Wars.
