From well-worn Mozart to a world premiere, the Nashville Symphony takes a “something for everyone” approach with this weekend’s program. Rising star Alisa Weilerstein is guest soloist for Shostakovich's 1966 Cello Concerto No. 2. The 27-year-old cellist has been hailed by the likes of Yo-Yo Ma for her passionate approach, which will make an interesting match with the concerto’s brooding intensity. Nashville concertgoers may remember Puerto Rican composer Roberto Sierra's Fandangos for Orchestra, which the NSO performed last season. Sierra’s new Sinfonía No. 4 was commissioned by a consortium of orchestras including Nashville’s, continuing the Symphony’s commitment to new works by American composers. The lush orchestration of Ravel’s evocative Rapsodie Espagnole and the familiar strains of Mozart’s spirited “Haffner” Symphony No. 35 round out the evening. Admission is $35-$105.
