Mel McDaniel Benefit at the Nashville Palace

A product of the fertile Tulsa, Okla., music scene of the 1960s, Mel McDaniel is perhaps best known as the singer of “Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On,” an indelible 1984 country hit. His good-humored vocals and sharp ear for a good song shot him to the top of the charts during a bland decade, and he’s a fine songwriter in his own right—Commander Cody covered “Roll Your Own,” McDaniel’s ode to hippiedom. In June, McDaniel suffered a heart attack and at last report is undergoing a long rehabilitation process. Tonight’s show benefits McDaniel and his family, with fellow Grand Ole Opry stars stopping by to lend their support. Little Jimmy Dickens, T. Graham Brown and Helen Cornelius are just a few of the names, and there will be a silent auction. Tickets are $10 at the door, with the proceeds going to a very worthy cause.
