Jay Clifford at Exit/In

Jay Clifford fronted jangle-and-jam popsters Jump, Little Children for 15 years before their indefinite hiatus in 2005. A popular regional touring act, they eventually scored a deal with Atlantic subsidiary Breaking Records for their ’98 debut LP Magazine, which showcased eclectic tastes ranging from upbeat rock to elegant, string-addled ballads like their hit “Cathedrals.” That was to be their only major-label outing, and after a pair of studio albums they shelved the band while Clifford explored a solo career. On his debut, Driving Blind, Clifford’s creamy tenor sails sumptuous seas of ‘70s AC singer/songwriter pop, while down-tempo, introspective piano-driven numbers such as “Caught in the Rain” take on the swoony luster of early Duncan Sheik.
