The 1994 Tim Burton-Johnny Depp film Ed Wood might be said to have semi-immortalized the strange and baffling career of perhaps Hollywood's most eccentric director. If there is more to say about the legendary auteur — creator of the egregious Plan 9 From Outer Space — we might have to take a cue from Tchaikovsky: "Music takes over where words leave off." Nashville songwriter Rick Tell has a new musical based on Wood's life and strife, and there will be a reading of it 2 p.m. June 22 at OutCentral, 1709 Church St.
There's a cast of 12, which includes Todd Rowan, Halee Culicerto, Kim Kinsley-Herrera and David Kinnard. (No word yet on who is playing Bela Lugosi, but if he's lifting his voice in song, we want to be there for that.) Seating is limited and reservations are mandatory. Call Jaz Dorsey at 615-915-0891.
