, Boston-based poet and publisher Janaka Stucky co-headlined a great poetry/hip-hop party in Third Man's Blue Room. Besides a cool opportunity to see Stucky read in person (along with TJ Jarrett and Kendra DeColo, topped off with a set by stellar MC Mike Floss), the event served to hype Stucky's forthcoming book, The Truth Is We Are Perfect, which has the distinction of being Third Man Books' first single-author title.
Today, TMB announced April 14 as the publication date, and sent along a clip of Stucky reading "The Art of Loss Is a Lost Art," which contains the line that gives the book its title. Whether you like their performance style or not, hearing a poet read their work gives you a new perspective on it, as their inflection and pacing reveal interpretations or layers of meaning you might not get just from reading the work on the page.
See what you hear in the somewhat scratchy recording — naturally, made direct to disc in Third Man's Record Booth — after the jump.
