Curator's Tour: Ink, Silk and Gold
When: Noon Thursday, Dec. 17
Where: The Frist
With show-stopping exhibits like Phantom Bodies and the survey of Michelangelo’s drawings currently hanging in the Frist’s upstairs galleries, the incredible Ink, Silk and Gold: Islamic Art From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston downstairs might not be getting the attention it deserves — this showcase of Islamic art presents nearly 100 sumptuous, mind-expanding works reaching as far back as the eighth century.
Stop in during your lunch break on Thursday, when Frist curator Trinita Kennedy will lead a tour of the massive and endlessly interesting exhibition. Because so many of the objects on display are most meaningful when put to use — pages from gilded manuscripts, clothing, carpets and the like — understanding Islamic art requires a knowledge of the culture and its history, and Kennedy’s tour will breathe life into the work.
