East Nashville independent bookstore The Bookshop is set to move locations, the business announced on Wednesday.
From East Nashville to the West Side, North Nashville and the suburbs, indie bookstores are bubbling up all over Middle Tennessee
After roughly 10 years in its 550-square-foot-location at 1043 W. Eastland Ave., the business is relocating to a location nearly three times the size at 824 Meridian St. in East Nashville's McFerrin Park neighborhood. Then new location will also boast a 600-square-foot front porch, with the business set to move in by the end of 2026, according to The Bookshop's owners.
"The response to our announcement this morning has been overwhelming in the very best of ways, and the move feels somehow even more real now that others know about it," owner Joelle Herr says in a statement to the Scene.
"I'm looking forward to sharing updates and sneak peeks over the coming months of the buildout — and can't wait for the day we can welcome everyone into our expanded book lovers' haven on Meridian Street."
A Washington, D.C.-area company that owns apartment buildings in Nashville's Midtown and Salemtown neighborhoods bought the Eastland Avenue building where The Bookshop is located for $14.87 million in 2022. Hanna Bee coffee, located next to The Bookshop, closed in February. The Eastland building still houses award-winning restaurant Peninsula and Darling Beauty Salon.
